This bottle is truly a commercial size container of the period. Despite being made of glass, the sheer size of the bottle lends strength as well as capacity.
While the smaller cathedral bottles have been dug in campsites, these much larger bottles were among those salvaged from the steamboats Bertrand and Arabia. If one is doing a camp impression, where there is a regimental cook, these commercial sized bottles would be the only logical choice for the quantities needed to feed masses of troops.
